Life next to it

Burning Man

"A life next door" shows bizarre and adventurous living environments.
What drives people to flee, how do they set up their new lives and how big is the difference between them and us "normal citizens"?
What fascination do the different subcultures exert? Because apparently they offer something that the "real" world cannot offer people.

The "Burning Man", a wooden figure around 15 meters high, is the focus of a festival in the Nevada desert, which is now attended by almost 50,000 people.
At the end of the Burning Man week, the wooden figure is burned - an extraordinary spectacle.
The film follows the festival visitors, who leave their everyday lives behind them during these days, are fully immersed in the community and create their own universe in the desert.

First broadcast: Friday, August 05, 2011, 22:00, ZDF.Kultur.
