Antonia Fietz is a costume designer and head of the costume department at the Staatstheater Braunschweig.
Everything that is worn on stage passes through her hands - whether it's a tailor-made suit or an outfit put together from the stock.
The costume designer develops a costume concept for the respective production in consultation with the director, make-up artist and set designer.
To do this, they can draw on the often extensive stock or they have to design the costumes themselves.
Usually, of course, a mixture of both is necessary.
In any case, imagination and creativity are required, as well as knowledge of styles and materials.
The costume designer's designs are produced in collaboration with the costume master and the tailoring department.
In the end, of course, every garment has to fit perfectly.
Several fittings are usually necessary until the actor feels perfectly equipped for their role.
This sometimes also includes hats or masks, which are then also designed by the costume designer.
During the performance, the costume designer helps to ensure that the actors can complete all the moves in the given time.
