Stage fright, tears, nervous breakdowns?
Pastoral care is also part of the make-up artist's job.
No one is as close to the actors as the men and women in make-up.
Sometimes, right before the performance or during the show, noses are powdered and souls are stroked at the edge of the stage.
But the main focus is of course on the traditional tasks of this profession: The make-up and hairdressing of the actors, the making of masks.
The make-up artist works closely with the costume department.
And it is often difficult to distinguish between props and sets.
For example, Kerstin Wirrmann, head make-up artist at the Centraltheater Leipzig, sometimes has to make a huge papier-mâché phallus by hand.
Imagination and a wealth of ideas are required - however unusual the director's wishes may be.
