Coburg State Theater

The theater tradition in Coburg dates back to the 16th century.
In 1827, Duke Ernst I founded the ducal court theater with its own ensemble.
A courageous decision, considering that the Duke ran the theater "at his own expense and risk" in a town with only 8,000 inhabitants at the time.

Today, the Landestheater Coburg offers 22 new productions in one season for the approximately 42,000 inhabitants, i.e. there is a premiere to celebrate every 10 days.
Esther Schweins introduces the four-genre theater and its rich history.

The actor Günter Mack describes how he gained his first stage experience at the Coburg State Theater.
The author Tankred Dorst talks about his memories of his youth when he saw Schiller's "Don Carlos" for the first time in Coburg, where his "Karlos" is now being staged.
Hubertus Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha talks about his ducal family history, which is connected to the Coburg theater in a special way.
