Theater Lübeck

"An artistic capital event of my life," enthused Thomas Mann about a visit to the theater in Lübeck.

Since 1752, the theater in the Beckergrube has been the cultural center of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.
At that time, a permanent theater building was established on the initiative of a master carpenter.
In 1908, thanks to a private donation from the then Senator Emil Possehl, one of the largest, most modern and at the same time most beautiful Art Nouveau stages in Germany was inaugurated.

Fortunately, the theater survived the Allied bombing raids without major damage.
In the nineties, the building was completely renovated.
The continued existence and renovation of Theater Lübeck is due not least to the private initiative of many Lübeck residents who have supported the company with donations in kind and money.
The theater has been run as a limited company since 1998.
