OUR COUNTRY 1981

Lots of coal

Weird hairstyles, flashy characters and lots of highlights - let's go back to the 80s!
We celebrated new stars - and lived through serious crises.

1981 - Horst Schimanski mobbed his way through the "Tatort" for the first time in his greasy jacket.
In Bonn, hundreds of thousands came to the first peace demonstration in the Hofgarten.
And the women's soccer team SSG 09 from Bergisch Gladbach became world champions!
The second film in the new WDR documentary series "Our country in the 80s" tells of a time when the SPD ruled the country with an absolute majority; it was the year in which the unemployment rate rose to almost 400,000 - more than ever before.
Savings had to be made everywhere, because there was literally a shortage of money.
Between poppers, protests and sporting triumphs, the film also tells the stories of people whose lives were to change fundamentally that year.
