Denmark's royal children

Departure and legacy

It is the beginning of a new era in Denmark's monarchy when Frederik X becomes king on January 14, 2024. becomes king. On this day, he also comes into focus: Christian, the new crown prince.
More duty, more presence, more responsibility is now the order of the day for Royal, who has just come of age. Not much is known about Christian and his siblings Isabella, Vincent and Josephine, who are now also moving more into the limelight. Although they live in the heart of Copenhagen and attend public schools, there are no pictures away from official appearances. The Danes respect the privacy of their royal family and the princes' and princesses' right to a childhood. So far, Denmark's young royal children have grown up without media pressure and with a lot of nest warmth, able to develop freely and self-confidently in a protected space.

In contrast, her father Frederik can look back on a difficult childhood. He and his brother Joachim were looked after by a nanny known as "Ekstramor", an extra mother. The little princes ate their meals with her in the early years of their lives, and were presented to their parents primped and preened. "On ne pleure pas", "no crying", was the educational credo of their father, a French count. Reason enough for Frederik to do things differently - with his children and in his job. Today, working for the crown is teamwork, and the first-born also assists the king.
Christian will one day inherit the throne. But what about his siblings, cousins? Their grandmother, Queen Margrethe II, had decided to strip the children of her second-born Joachim of the titles of prince and princess as well as costly privileges, causing a great deal of strife in the family. The measure, which is probably linked to the decision to streamline the Danish monarchy, is also pending for Christian's siblings. Only those who represent are allowed to bear a royal title and enjoy an allowance. One day, these royal children will also have to stand on their own two feet.
The film explains what the change of throne at the beginning of the year means for the young representatives of the Danish crown and what challenges await them.
